AKIRA SOUNDTRACK

The song Winds Over Neo-Tokyo from the Akira soundtrack randomly came up on my iPod the other day and I forgot just how brilliant the whole soundtrack is and how much it reminds me of being a 10 year old kid and watching Akira for the first time and being completely mesmerized by it but at the same time not having a fucking clue what was going on (you need to read the comic to actually understand the story). So anyway, here's the soundtrack.

I posted episode 1 of FISHING WITH JOHN a couple months ago, now someone on YouTube has uploaded ALL 6 EPISODES, above I've put up my favourite episode where John Lurie goes ice fishing with Willem Defore (I just found out he was born William, Willem is just a nickname!), but things dont go so well. Why aren't their more programmes like this anymore, supposedly RICHARD HALL (who Moe Sizlack was based on) had a similar show on BBC4. Also, I bet you're thinking, the title music to Fishing With John is so incredibly awesome I wish I could get a copy of the soundtrack, well here it is for you to listen to forever and ever.

WILLIAM FRIEDKIN makes awesome films, especially cop films, and pretty much all his films have great, really diverse soundtracks so I thought I'd upload some for you to enjoy. Tangerine Dream's eerie electronic score for SCORCERER, the P-Funk, Germs and Mink DeVille filled soundtrack to CRUISING and Wang Chungs very 80's synth pop soundtrack to TO LIVE AND DIE IN L.A. (which also has the most disturbing and unnecessary sex scene in a film ever, when you see the silhouette of William Petersen's penis as he lifts the girl from the bed). I'm not gonna bother with The Exorcist because everyone has Tubular Bells don't they.

BEVERLY HILLS COP LOST SONGS

Beverley Hills Cop was on ITV2 tonight and I couldn't believe they still dub the swearing in films shown after 9pm, Im sure it was the exact same aweful dubbing from when I had a taped copy from the 80's. Anyway, I was about to turn over when suddenly the Patti LaBelle song 'Stir It Up' came on which is one of my favourite songs of all time so I watched it for abit longer. The soundtrack is pretty awesome, but one thing that always bugged me was that it didnt have all the HAROLD FALTERMEYER music from the film, the 2 songs I was after were 'The Shootout' & 'The Discovery', which I later found out were only made available as B-Sides to the 'Axel F' 12" when I bought a copy for 50p, but here they are for you to listen to, they're both amazing!

THE COMPLETE GOODFELLAS SOUNDTRACK

Goodfellas is great, it's one of those films that no one hates, and if someone says they do then they're an idiot who's just trying to be different. One of the best things about it like all Scorsese films is the soundtrack, although if you've ever tried to buy it you'll know that the official soundtrack is pretty poor and has around 30 songs missing. I came across The Complete Goodfellas Soundtrack a couple years ago that had been compiled by some nerds somewhere and so I thought you should have it too. My favourite scene in Goodfellas is when Atlantis by Donovan is playing and DeNiro, Pesci and Ray Liota are kicking the shit out of another guys face, the look on DeNiro's face is possibly the greatest piece of acting I've ever seen. Watching this Donovan video I've just noticed that he either has really short legs, as if his real legs were stolen and replaced with the legs of a child, or his arms are really really large. He reminds me of a statue that was made for Southampton football Club but then immediately taken down for looking SHIT.

LA PLANETE SAUVAGE

The trailer for this film could be better (The New York Times quote for the film in the trailer is "I recommend it") but everyone should own a copy of LA PLANETE SAUVAGE, and equally everyone should own a copy of the soundtrack by ALAIN GORAGUER. You can download the soundtrack HERE, the film is available to watch on YOUTUBE but I recommend you buy it so that you can fully appreciate it's awesomeness.

RANDOM SOUNDTRACKS AND ALBUMS

I was going to upload the soundtrack to Phenomena by Goblin, but then I came across a great blog that had already done that. The blog has a shit load of random soundtracks you can download, including the Soundtracks to Gremlins, Teen Wolf, Rumble Fish, Harold & Maude and Richy Rich (why would anyone want that) aswell as albums by Sissey Spacek, Don Johnson, John Travolta AND Goldie Hawn, AMAZING!
