NEW TOKYO ONDO

Meanwhile in Japan...

Watch Me Move

FYI, the animation exhibition at the Barbican is superb. Go see it. Tracing the history of animation over the past 150 years, the show brings together contemporary artists, popular favourites, and animators from the earliest days of moving pictures.
Here are two highlights...

Frank Film, 1972, by Frank and Caroline Mouris. The first ever mash-up.

The Skeleton Dance, 1929, by Disney.

DEUCE

Grotesquely beautiful animation by Monica Cook. Perfectly scored by Martín Capella.

Vanishing Point

Nice motion graphics from Bonsajo.

DICK WILLIAMS: ANIMATION MAN

Stole this from So-Me's blog.

POO PANTS

Oh shit, Cyriak's gone properly crazy.

WHEN YOU ARE ENGULFED IN FLAMES

I've been in Japan for the past few weeks and have fallen in love with the Japanese way of doing things: their clean design, their muted colour palette, their delicious octopus balls, their dignified way of behaving with each other... even the In-flight Safety Video on Japan Airlines is the most entertaining one I've ever seen - particularly when the passengers gleefully flee the plane at around the 4 minute mark.

LA FAIM = THE HUNGER

A 1974 animation by Hungarian artist Peter Foldes.

JUMPING

In this award-winning 1984 animation by Tezuka Osamu, a boy skips down a street, his stride becomes bigger and bigger until he's jumping over towns, forests and seas. Going higher and further, the boy's jump turns to a god's jump, reaching a point where he is watching over human destiny.

HOW WOULD YOU FEEL IF A BIG GIANT HAND CAME OUT OF THE SKY AND CRUSHED YOU?

An amazing animated accompaniment to the worst song ever written.
