ADAM BUXTON, PWEASE BE MY BFF?

I went to see Adam Buxton (from The Adam & Joe Show) last night in Greenwich. It was basically him sitting onstage with his laptop plugged into a projector sharing his favourite music videos with the 300 people in the audience. It was shambolic - Adam spent a lot of time navigating around his computer, not finding files. But this improvised ad-libbiness made it all the more enjoyable.

The best bits were:

1) His recitation of YouTube comments
This sounds totally inane but, an enormously skilled actor, Adam is really good at doing different voices: Enraged man, Geeky chap, Idiot-hole. He should seriously consider doing a whole stand-up show where he just reads out YouTube comments (I might email him and suggest it, though it might come across a bit "stalky").

2) A homevideo from the early 1990s
made by Adam Buxton, his comedy partner Joe Cornish, and childhood buddy Louis Theroux. These three all went to the same school together. So wish I'd been in their gang.

3) This video by Pes.

WHAT ARE THE BEST PODCASTS?

I've listened to the odd podcast here and there, but never really subscribed to any. Lately however, the whole choosing my own radio and getting it delivered automatically to my ears thing has sounded like a better idea. So I've been casting my pod like crazy. Here are my Top 5...

1: This American Life
Real-life stories of everyday people. Though a little schmaltzy at times, the show is made by legendary presenter Ira Glass, who has honed the craft of audio story-telling to a fine art.  Each episode has a theme and a variety of stories on that theme. Probably the best way to understand the show is to start at their favourites page.

2: Adam and Joe
Adam and Joe are the funniest comedy duo on the airwaves since Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant brought in Karl Pilkington and became a comedy trio.

3: Bill Maher's Real Time
Comedian Bill Maher hosts a funny political/current affairs talkshow. I think I agree with everything he smugly assumes.

4: Mark Kermode's Film Reviews
The finest film critic in the world rates the week's releases.
5: The Guardian Music Podcast
The main reason I tune into this one is to hear the sexy voice of presenter Rosie Swash.

If you were ever a student and wasted a lot of your time watching daytime television then you'd understand how great these two ADAM & JOE sketches are. I miss Adam & Joe, please come back, in the mean time though you can check out Adam's (the short one) great blog HERE.
