THE REBIRTH OF DEATH

So the story goes, in the early 1970s there were three black brothers from East Detroit who played Motown covers in their garage. After a life-changing experience at an Iggy & The Stooges gig, they decided to worship at the temple of hard rock, renaming their band DEATH. They produced a demo tape so smoking-hot that Columbia wanted to sign them, but insisted that they change their name. Death refused. And so the deal fell through and they went it alone, pressing 1000 copies of the EP For The Whole World To See in 1976. Then Death died; nothing more was heard from the band. Until now. After a wait of 33 years Drag City are re-releasing their debut. It's a bit like Bad Brains high-fiveing MC5.
