So I was reading about the new Grizzly Man Diaries which shows never-seen-before footage of Timothy Treadwell, the bear nutcase/expert from Werner Herzog's incredible Grizzly Man. Then I came across this clip that purports to be the actual audio recording that captures the death throes of Treadwell and his girlfriend as they were eaten alive by a bear. It sounds terrifyingly real at first as you hear voices screaming "I'm getting killed out here!" and "Fight back!" interspersed by angry bear growling. But I started to question the authenticity of the tape when I heard someone shout: "Hit it with a frying pan!"
Erm.... hit it with what? A frying pan? It sounds a bit like slapstick comedy. Why don't you tweak it's nose and drop an anvil on it's head while you're at it? Now, an audio recording of this terrible incident does actually exist and in Herzog's documentary it's discussed at length. It came from a video camera recovered near the two bodies by Alaska State Troopers and given to Treadwell's close friend Jewel Palovak. Herzog urged Palovak to destroy the tape, but apparently she did not, lending credence to the possibility of it being leaked onto the internet. However, I don't think this is it. Do you?

In the film they talk about the frying pan. I think it's real.
The tape has never been released and never will but people believe what they want and this recording is fake. It only allows the people who say they have it to acquire more hits on their site. It's BS.
This is a fake recording of the incident.
I am no fan of the dead Treadwell, whose life was made and ended by habituating bears (making bears think that humans were safe to be round, and allowing for even more incidents of this type to occur to folk who did NOT wish to live with bears) and who was a megalomaniacal jerk who only thought of himself (I could not wait for the grisly end to someone who would not stop referring to himself in the third person). But I do know that he had a remote mic on his chest when the bear attacked (it is documented in at least one of the books about Treadwell). The bear attacked his head (as bears do, because that is where the opponent—usually another bear—has one of its two primary weapons—and, like Tim's mouth, was mere inches away from the mic. However, the "Tim" in this false recording was obviously far away. Listen to the great ambiance. Moreover, the "Tim" here is in an enclosed space that is not natural but man made; there is an unnatural reverberation that any audio engineer would immediately divine. The voice of "Amie" is no less inauthentic for the same reasons.
Lastly, the taped portion of the attack was some six minutes in length. Only 1:51 is presented here, further insinuating that the amateur pranksters could not muster the ability to do the entire act.
In any case, THIS is far more real. Real hilarious! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTJlr6xVxKc&feature=related
Grizzly man is fake, or atleast i hope so, because that is one of the funniest movies I´ve ever seen.
And if you take into account that Werner Herzog used to be a part of the FLUXUS movement, wich basicly dedicated itself to question peoples perception of art and life, just adds to my suspicion that Werner is having one big laugh on us all.
My thoughts exactly, bustard. I don't know that much about this supposed recording, but these voices are obviously recorded in a room, not outside, and I am far from being an audio engineer.
sim senhor, muito interessante
Damn i want that death recording!

looks legit
It's probably real, everyone claiming it must be fake, please double check your facts.
The reason the audio is so wacky is that Treadwell was wearing a radio mic somewhere on his clothing /jacket, which probably got wrapped up in material as he was being dragged around by the bear. That's also why you can hear wind, rain and material rustling and is why the voices sound distant and unusual, the cameras inbuilt mic (yes the camera was in a bag inside the tent, found with the lens cap still on) would not have been active or recording, only the radio mic from outside.
The police investigation concluded this is what probably happened: During the night Treadwell heard a bear outside the tent and went out to confront it, telling his girlfriend Aimee to go and start the video camera. Things went bad for Treadwell as the bear was intent on eating him, once Aimee realized what was happening she forgot about the camera and ran back outside.
All witnesses who have heard the tape say the same thing, that Treadwell screams to Aimee "Get out of here, I'm getting killed out here!" Aimee alternately yells "fight back" and "play dead" and Aimee is said to use a frying pan to temporarily scare off the bear. The witnesses also state that the bear is almost innaudible except for a few grunts (which matches this tape).
I think this is the first few minutes of the full death tape, probably leaked by someone involved with the Alaskan police force. If it is a fake, then the vocal performers have done their research and given good terrified performances.
Real scary stuff nothing to fight back with no one heard them scream miles away from civilisation its like something out ov a horror movie but its real
What an idiot if its not real its sick to do it,but i think it is real chilling the thought of it i listened with disbelief and thats just some of it.unf*ckin real.
so what they mentioned a frying pan!!! Not enough facts...that is just a little something a hustler would use to convince someone that their lie was true. Who knows?!
