DAD'S NIGHT
CUTE ALERT: BROTHERLY BATTLES IN THE BACKSEAT
Three young brothers discuss the sibling rivalry that goes on in the backseat during car rides. (1 min 19 secs).
The audio is taken from the latest episode of the best radio show on earth - This American Life - which this week tells the stories of people passing through highway rest-stops (which we English call motorway service stations).
ADAM BUXTON, PWEASE BE MY BFF?
I went to see Adam Buxton (from The Adam & Joe Show) last night in Greenwich. It was basically him sitting onstage with his laptop plugged into a projector sharing his favourite music videos with the 300 people in the audience. It was shambolic - Adam spent a lot of time navigating around his computer, not finding files. But this improvised ad-libbiness made it all the more enjoyable.
The best bits were:
1) His recitation of YouTube comments
This sounds totally inane but, an enormously skilled actor, Adam is really good at doing different voices: Enraged man, Geeky chap, Idiot-hole. He should seriously consider doing a whole stand-up show where he just reads out YouTube comments (I might email him and suggest it, though it might come across a bit "stalky").
2) A homevideo from the early 1990s
made by Adam Buxton, his comedy partner Joe Cornish, and childhood buddy Louis Theroux. These three all went to the same school together. So wish I'd been in their gang.
3) This video by Pes.

WE WANT TO BE OURSELVES
Auteur Oliver Stone started making a documentary about Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez, but ended up interviewing a posse of Latin American leaders. The resulting film, South Of The Border, tells the story of how the continent has liberated itself from US economic and political control. My favourite bit of the trailer is when Argentina's president says: "For the first time in the region, the leaders look like the people they govern." Telling it like it is. Viva Chavez!
YES - "OWNER OF LONELY HEART"
Great video. Even greater riff.
The song applies to the guy below, whom I envy and pity at the same time.
GLADIATOR DAYS - ANATOMY OF A PRISON MURDER
I saw this documentary a couple of years ago and certain bits of footage from it still haunt me. It's got to be one of the most disturbing, horrifying films I've ever seen. I kinda didn't want to post it, as I'm all about the good vibes these days. But it's burned into my brain. You can't unsee it. I'll leave it up to you.
Across the United States, violent crime in prison is an everyday reality, with inmates routinely exposed to assault, riot, rape and murder. Gladiator Days: Anatomy of a Prison Murder examines the culture of institutional violence through the events that led to one burtal prison murder. Utah State Prison surveillance cameras capture this disturbing real-life account of the vicious stabbing of black inmate Lonnie Blackmon by convicted murderer, white supremacist Troy Kell and his accomplice Eric Daniels.
